Farm Animals and Apples

The past couple of weeks have been a lot of fun! 

In math, the students practiced sorting:

They learned all about numbers 0-5

 They have been working hard at counting using one-to-one correspondence

In Literacy, the kids have been practicing retelling a story from beginning to end

 They learned what a Venn Diagram is

 Discussed some different things farm animals give us

 We also read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and created these adorable trees!

 This past week was our apple unit! It is one of my favorites!

The students had the opportunity to try each type of apple, then we created a graph to see which apple was liked the most

 On Friday, we made applesauce! It was delicious!

This week is our Pumpkin unit! I can't wait!

Nursery Rhyme Parade

The kiddos had so much fun during the Nursery Rhyme Parade!! Here are some their pictures!

Fair Field Trip and Other Things

We had a great time at the fair last week! This was some of the kiddos first time to ever ride a school bus!

They had the opportunity to pet chickens and many other farm animals

 This week they played minute to win it! This has helped them learn their sight words.

 They learned what syllables are this week. We turned out the lights and used these lights to practice counting syllables. 

So far it's been a great week!!

Don't forget, the nursery rhyme parade and birthday celebration is this Friday!

Nursery Rhyme Parade is Friday, September 28^th.  Please see the yellow note for details.  Parents are welcome to come watch.  We ask all parents to go to the cafeteria and we will parade through the cafeteria.  All grades watch us so the halls get crowded.  They come dressed for the parade and can change afterwards.

August/September Birthday Celebration is also Friday, September 28^th at 1:00 p.m.  If you would like to bring food or drinks to the party please let me know. Remember all food must be store bought. You are welcome to come party with us too!

Fair Field Trip

Friday, September 21^st we will be taking our first field trip to the fair to look at the farm animals.  This is a very short field trip and is used to get the students familiar with riding the bus, practicing bus rules, and staying with our group when we are out on field trips.  We will leave school around 8:30, travel to the fair, walk through the animals (takes about an hour), and then return school around 10:00.  Parents are more than welcome to attend; however, siblings are not.  If you are interested in attending, you can follow the bus from school or meet us at the fair.  Students must ride the bus to the fair and stay with their class while at the fair.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!!

 



Kindergarten 2012/2013

Parents, I am so sorry I am just now posting! It usually takes me a few weeks to get started, but I promise to post more often. Here is a little of what we have done the past four weeks:

In math, the students are doing word problems and counting.

Daily, we are writing sentences. We discuss uppercase and lowercase letters, counting how many words are in our sentence, punctuation, and the students are spelling words according to the sounds they hear.

We've been using the SMART Board for math. They loved gumball counting!

We reade Harold and the Purple Crayon and the students had to use one color and create a story using their one color.

The kiddos are learning to count using number lines

We've had a great first few weeks of school!!
